The engraving on the outside of this Kara is the Re Man Shabd and reads:

Re-man eh bidh jog kamaa-o.
Singee saach akapat kanthalaa dhi-aan bibhoot charaa-o.
Taatee gaho aatam bas kar kee bhichhaa naam adhaarang.
Baajay param taar tat har ko upajai raag rasaarang.
Ughatai taan tarang rang at gi-aan geet bandhaanang.
Chak chak rehay dayv daanav mun chhak chhak bayom bivaanang.
Aatam upadays bhays sanjam ko jaap so ajapaa jaapai.
Sadaa rehai kanchan see kaayaa kaal na kabahoo(n) bayaapai.

The meaning of this Mantra:

O Mind, practice yoga in this way.
Let Truth be your horn, sincerity your necklace, and let meditation be the ashes you apply to your -body.
Make self-restraint your lyre, and the Naam, the Name of God, your support.
Vibrate the strings of the Sound-Current, and hear the sweet Songs of the Lord.
The waves of sweet sound bring ecstasy, and through the Songs of the Lord, Divine Knowledge is infused.
The demons and demi-gods in their heavenly chariots will be amazed, and the sages intoxicated with delight.
Instruct your soul, wear the loin-cloth of self-restraint, and chant the Name of the Lord, even while silent.
In this way, your body shall remain forever like gold, and death shall never draw near you.

The Re-man Shabd is part of the Dasam Granth from the 10th Sikh Master, Guru Gobind Singh. Yogi Bhajan said: This Shabad is pure Naad Yoga. It has the capacity to lead to a perfect state of total health. Perfection of this Shabad can make you like a Golden Buddha. You will have wisdom, you will have the purity of a yogi and you will have an essence.

History and use of a Kara:
The Kara is originally a bracelet made of iron or steel and was first given by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th Sikh Master, in 1699 as one of the 5 K's of the Sikhs - a powerful protection and radiant symbol for the one who wears it.
A circle with no beginning and no end, the Kara represents man’s unbreakable relationship with the eternal creator and the Infinity. The steel or iron is a reminder of the strength of the bond which unites us together and ultimately to the Divine.

A Kara is not only a spiritual or religious garment, it is a powerful jewel of radiance, enhancing your personality and presence. In the science of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, the Kara is also valued for its energetic-magnetic effects on the Aura – strengthening the male or active energy when worn on the right hand, and the female or more receptive energy when worn on the left hand.
